Nigel Armstrong PhD


Nigel joined KSR in 2010 as a health economist, and then health economics manager.  His role includes the design of decision analytic models for cost effectiveness analysis as well as the conduct of various types of meta-analysis using both frequentist and Bayesian methods.  He also contributes to the work of KSR in its capacity as Evidence Review Group in technology appraisals for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).  Recent projects include CEAs in anaphylaxis and acute coronary syndrome.


Nigel worked for about 10 years as a physiotherapist, specialising in stroke, before doing the MSc in Health Economics at the University of York in 2000.  Since then he has worked at the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, University of York and Newcastle University.  He has completed many CEAs in diverse areas such as benign prostatic enlargement, stroke and termination of pregnancy and his PhD was in the area of contraception.  His main interests are methods for decision modelling and evidence synthesis.
