Nigel Armstrong PhD


Nigel joined KSR Ltd in 2010 as a health economist, and then health economics manager.  His role includes managing the health economics team, the design of decision analytic models for cost effectiveness analysis, the performance of systematic reviews and the conduct of various types of meta-analysis using both frequentist and Bayesian methods. 


Nigel also contributes to the work of KSR Ltd in its capacity as an Evidence Review Group in Technology Appraisals for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).  He oversees the health economics input to all appraisals. Recent projects include systematic review and economic modelling in the use of Artificial Intelligence in the interpretation of CT scans in acute stroke care and in various other diagnostic technologies. 


Nigel worked for about 10 years as a physiotherapist, specialising in stroke before doing the MSc in Health Economics at the University of York in 2000. 


Since then Nigel has worked at the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York and Newcastle University.


Nigel has completed many CEAs in diverse areas such as cystic fibrosis, benign prostatic enlargement, stroke, anaphylaxis and termination of pregnancy and his PhD was in the area of fertility control. 

His main interests are methods for decision modelling and evidence synthesis.
