Carol Forbes PhD
Carol joined KSR in January 2009 and works as a reviews manager. Her role involves supervising and carrying out systematic reviews, technology assessments and other related activities. Since joining KSR, Carol has worked on a number of different projects for various pharmaceutical companies, covering topics such as oncology, pain management, cardiovascular disease, vaccinations, hypertension, and gastroenterology. This work has included producing both systematic and literature reviews, including reviews of burden of illness, epidemiology, cost and treatment patterns (BECT) to support the development of core value dossiers.
Carol’s background is in scientific research. She has a BSc Hons in Medical Microbiology and a PhD in Virology. After two postdoctoral positions working in the laboratory, Carol began work for the Cochrane Peripheral Vascular Diseases Group in 1998 as the Review Group Coordinator/Trials Search Coordinator. She then moved on to train as a reviewer at the NHS Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD), where she was involved in numerous systematic reviews and health technology assessments for the National Centre for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), NHS R&D HTA Programme, and Department of Health. Carol later became a reviews manager at CRD before leaving to take a short career break in 2006.
Carol’s interests include critical appraisal, systematic reviews and health technology assessments in general, but particularly in the areas of oncology, infection and immunity.
